OGDEN, UT – Students in the Automotive Service Technology program at ĢƵ (ĢƵ) are gaining real-world experience with industry-standard equipment designed to prepare them for careers in today’s high demand automotive industry. As the automotive industry continues to evolve with electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid systems and advanced safety technology, ĢƵ is preparing students with hands-on automotive service technician training using industry-standard tools and modern diagnostic equipment.

ĢƵ’s automotive lab features professional-grade equipment, where students complete engine and transmission tear-down, brake service, tire mounting and balancing, suspension work and advanced diagnostics. The program emphasizes practical training to ensure graduates are workforce ready.

ĢƵ is one of the few technical colleges in Utah to offer a high-voltage vehicle simulator, allowing students to safely practice procedures used when servicing electric and hybrid vehicles. This technology gives students exposure to real-world scenarios before entering the workforce. “We’re one of the few tech schools here in Utah that has one of these pieces of equipment,” Carlos Orellana, Automotive Service Technology program director said. “It’s very expensive but very useful for some of these modern vehicles.”

In addition to electric vehicle training, the program includes hands-on experience with an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) machine. Students learn how sensors, cameras and radar systems work together to improve vehicle safety and performance.

ĢƵ students also apply their classroom knowledge through a comprehensive project vehicle build. The vehicle was rebuilt from the ground up, with students assembling the engine and transmission, installing a supercharger, upgrading the rear end, adding Wilwood brakes and completing a full suspension build.

ĢƵ’s certificate in Automotive Service Technology can serve as part of a long-term educational pathway. After earning the certificate, students may apply their credits toward an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in automotive technology at Weber State University.

Take the next step to start your automotive career — apply to ĢƵ’s Automotive Service Technology program today and start gaining hands-on experience. For more information, contact admissions or visit otech.edu/admissions

OGDEN, UT – 2025 brought remarkable growth to our foundation, along with a greater need for student support. When we shared this challenge with our community, you answered the call.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, sponsors, and community partners, we achieved extraordinary results this past year. Your belief in our students made it possible to award scholarships to 528 individuals, helping them gain valuable technical skills and transform their lives. In addition, 360 pounds of food were donated to our student pantry, and a $500 contribution helped keep our pantry and hygiene supplies fully stocked.

Because of your support, students can focus on their education rather than basic needs. Your continued commitment allows us to expand scholarships, pantry services, and licensure funding for the 2025–2026 school year.

As we enter 2026, we are energized by the momentum our students are creating. ĢƵ remains dedicated to student and community success, and we look forward to the growing opportunities ahead.

To every donor, sponsor, and community member, thank you. Your unwavering support is changing lives and shaping brighter futures. We are honored to have you as partners in our students’ success.

OGDEN, UT – Students on ĢƵ’s (ĢƵ) SkillsUSA Welding Fabrication team helped the decorated trees glow a little bit brighter this year at Weber School Foundation’s Christmas Tree Jubilee by fabricating the event’s all 60 tree stands.

The project showcased the team’s craftsmanship and growing expertise in the trade, while also giving them an opportunity to contribute to their community:

  • Practical application: Welding students translated classroom skills into real-world projects, measuring, cutting, and welding steel with precision.
  • Teamwork: Team members collaborated to design and assemble bases without flaw, reinforcing both technical and problem-solving skills.
  • Community impact: The team’s work directly supported the Jubilee, a local tradition that raises funds for classroom grants, student scholarships, and educational programs across Weber School District.
  • Off-season practice: Last year, the team placed first at state for the first time in ĢƵ history. To keep the momentum going, team members practice skills and prepare for the next round of competition. Projects like this help them refine the skills that win the team medals at the SkillsUSA national competition in June.

Man wearing a welding helmet and safety gear welds a piece of metal. The metal looks hot, surrounded by sparks and smoke.
Welding fabrication is the process of creating metal structures through welding techniques. Students at ĢƵ learn these skills to be successful professionals, an also have the opportunity to demonstrate them through SkillsUSA competitions.

Camren Waikart had the opportunity to work on the stands and appreciated the extra experience it gave his team to become more skilled and more collaborative.

“It was a good learning process to understand what’s the best and fastest way to do something. It taught us how to work together and how to streamline processes. When we started, we were doing one per hour and when we finished, we were doing five per hour,” Camren said.

The Christmas Tree Jubilee has long been a highlight of the holiday season in Weber County, drawing families, educators, and community members together to celebrate. The Weber School Foundation holds the annual event to raise money for the district’s students.

Organizations and schools in the community donate a perfectly decorated, on-theme Christmas tree. Then at a later gala, each tree is available for purchase via silent auction. Before going back to their new homes, the trees are on public display at the Eccles Conference Center for a short time before Thanksgiving.

Past funds have been donated to develop teen centers across Weber School District: safe places for students facing challenges such as homelessness, food insecurity, and emotional well-being. This year, funds were donated to the Unified Sports program.

As sparks flew in the welding shop, ĢƵ’s SkillsUSA competitors weren’t just shaping steel—they were shaping the community and their careers.

“Hands-on experience like this help me become a better welder in my professional life, so I can go back to the shop and even help my coworkers become better welders,” Camren said.

At ĢƵ, students gain practical hands-on experience that prepares them for real-world welding careers. To learn about the Welding Technology program, speak with a student support specialist, or visit otech.edu/welder.

OGDEN, UT – At ĢƵ, students like Julia Piedra Santa are turning dreams into careers—thanks to hands-on training, and supportive instructors that made it all possible. A year ago, Julia returned to school to start her career, and today she’s thrivingin the Automation Technology program, building confidence and gaining the skills that pay!

Julia began her ĢƵ journey in the Manufacturing Technology program, where she discovered how much she enjoyed hands-on work. The program didn’t just teach her technical skills—it showed her that she can do hard things.

When it was time to start the electrical systems course, Julia was nervous. Electricity seemed dangerous and intimidating! “There was a time that I was scared of doing this work,” Julia said. “But my instructor, Mike Tolson, saw that and asked me how I was doing. I told him I was scared, but he said, ‘Don’t be — it’s safe.’ and I felt better.” That moment of reassurance made all the difference. And with encouragement from her instructors, Julia’s confidence grew —along with her skills.

OGDEN, UT – Students from local high schools got a behind-the-scenes look at modern manufacturing careers during ĢƵ’s (ĢƵ) Manufacturing Day event, held Oct. 9.

The event gave students the chance to tour two major employers — ENVE Composites and Williams International — where students saw firsthand the types of careers that begin with training at ĢƵ.

The goal of the event was to inspire students to consider careers in manufacturing and to introduce them to high-growth industries like Machining, Composites, and Automation Technology.

Manufacturing Day attendees preparing their paper rocks to be launched.

“Manufacturing Day is an annual event that showcases modern manufacturing to high school students to inspire them to pursue careers in the field,” said Andrew Perry, a manufacturing program recruiter at ĢƵ. “We hope students gain an interest in the companies we toured and can make the connection that these are viable careers to pursue.

Following the tours, students returned to ĢƵ’s Collette Mercier campus in the Business Depot Ogden (BDO) to meet with program instructors and explore ĢƵ’s manufacturing programs through hands-on activities.

Manufacturing Day is just one-way ĢƵ’s introducing students to the world of manufacturing. At Ogden-Weber Tech, programs are aligned with local workforce needs, giving students the tools, experience and confidence to step directly into high-demand jobs.

The ĢƵ Foundation, lives by a simple yet powerful commitment to students. One student at a time is not just a motto—it is the heartbeat of everything we do. Every scholarship awarded, equipment purchased, and program supported represents a life transformed, a family uplifted, and a community strengthened.

As we reflect on the incredible progress we have made together, we are filled with gratitude for the donors who make this mission possible. Your generosity does not just fund education; it removes barriers and creates pathways for students to pursue technical training. We are deeply thankful for your belief in the power of education to change everything.

We are continually building new community relationships, forging partnerships with like-minded organizations, and working to grow our scholarship fund so that no student is turned away due to financial hardship. Your continued support is essential to this mission.

Thank you for being partners in this vital work and believing that education provides the opportunity our students need to build sustainable careers and brighter futures.
Here are some stories from students whose lives you have positively impacted:

“I am a single mom of a nine month old. I would like to thank my donor for providing me a stepping stone to a career I’ve always dreamed of. I want to be able to support my son in this hard economy, while helping others.”

(Grace M. – CNA Program)

“A scholarship can take a load off my mind by reducing the financial stress of tuition, fees, and books. It frees me up to focus more on my studies and less on working long hours to cover expenses.”

(Destinee M. – Medical Assistant Program)

“This is the first time in years I’ve been hopeful about my future, because now I’ll be able to find a job with the trade skills I’m learning and be able to make enough to support my family.”

(Garry O. – Welding Program)

“I am a hard working individual trying to better my life so my family won’t have to struggle. This scholarship will help me financially so there is less worry about paying the school for my courses and more focus on school.”

(Gabriel M. – Composites Program)

“This scholarship will help me by not having to worry about having enough money to continue my education and not have to pick which bill is more important. It’s a blessing I couldn’t say thank you enough for.”

(Alexis L. – Cosmetology Program)

“This scholarship helps me a lot because I don’t have to stress so much about how to pay for school. I’ve been trying to cover things on my own, but it hasn’t been easy. Now I can focus more on learning and finishing my program without worrying about money all the time.”
